Reading Log- Soon

Setting Analysis: Write about the setting found in one of the books you read this week. Use adjectives to describe it. Have you ever been in a similar setting? When and why?

Soon is mainly about war. So my main and really only setting is on the streets after the war, with people to scared to go out. And with people patrolling the town, and never at all being completely safe, even if you have the best hiding spot, under ground, in a destroyed house or even living in a drain.

On the streets it’s-

  • Cold
  • Misty
  • Dark
  • Damp
  • Grey
  • Scary

There are so many bad things about war, like being to scared to walk down your street, or to scavenge for food.  I Have never been on a type of street like this, the closest I could get to that would be……….. At night if I was in the city, like Melbourne, it’s a little bit all of those things. but in a different way. The last time I was in Melbourne was a month or two ago, for one of my basketball games, and I was staying at my Nana’s house, with my mum. We had gone out for dinner after one of my basketball games, then we came home and parked the car, just a few houses away from her house, but it was all of those things, when walking up that cold, damp, misty, dark grey and scary. Especially scary and dark.

Reading Log- They Never Came Home

Hi readers, today we have to do a plot analysis about our story, [ written below ] My book is THEY NEVER CAME HOME.

Plot Analysis: Write about a brief plot outline on one of the books you have read this week. If you haven’t finished a book this week record the events so far and then predict how the book might end. they never came home

As you know I am reading the book, They never came home. I have not finished the book, so I am going to tell you the events so far, and then predict what might happen in this book.

So far, Anne’s brother and boyfriend have gone missing after going hiking/camping up in the mountains, and Anne has received this phone call from a so called Mr. Brown, saying that her missing brother owes him over two thousand dollars. She decides  to not tell her distraught parents, because it will most likely tear the family more apart. Mr. Brown arranges a meeting spot at the library, at 9:00 [ When it’s dark ] she gets a little suspicious, but when he says that if she doesn’t meet him there, he will call her parents. And she really would not like that to happen. Seeing as she has become so quite close with Frank [ her missing boyfriends brother ] she decides to tell him about her issue. Frank insists on coming, to the library [ to be her body guard ] so she will be safe, but when he doesn’t turn up at there meeting arrangement, she starts to worry that she got the wrong date or the wrong time. Then she starts to think what if he calls mum and dad, at home, who will pick up? What will they say? She tells Frank that she must rush home quickly to take the call. They catch the bus home, the bus stop is a few blocks away from her house, Frank insists on walking her home so she is, the again safe, but she refuses. Good thing she does refuse because when she is walking home, Mr. Brown drives up next to her and hops out of his car to talk. Anne’s first idea is to run away from this man who did not tell her his first name, or this man who she had never met. But then she thinks about the family.

That is all I have got up to, but so far my prediction is that she ends up giving this Mr. Brown the money that her brother owes, and also I think that, Dan [her boyfriend that is missing] or her brother that is missing, that one of them is still alive, and that one of them has done something to the other.

Weekly Reflection+ Goal Setting

This week I will be reflecting on how I believe I am travelling with the year 6 agreements.

Things I have done well…..

  • Things I have done well would probably be, listening and not talking.
  • Focusing on whoever may be talking.
  • Attitiative, when we come back from a subject, instead of just talking, I pack up my table, or clean out my locker.

Things I would like to improve in…..

  • Take opportunities, I haven’t had many, but there was 1 or 2 that I didn’t take.
  • Be inclusive,

Goal setting

Next week I will be focusing on…

  • Showing, not just telling my answer, but showing my thoughts, ideas and maybe also in drawing or pictures. In any working out time.

Reading Log- Character Analysis

Character Analysis: Write about a character from one of the books you read this week. Include personality aspects, physical attributes, what you liked/ didn’t like about them as well as an event this character was involved in.

I have started this new book called ” They never came home”. This week for our reading log we have to do a character analysis, so we describe the characters personalities [ like said above ^] My character is called Frankie, his brother and his brothers girlfriends brother, went camping in the mountains and now are presumed dead. His brothers girlfriend isn’t one of the prettiest girls and Frankie never really liked her. Frankie misses his brother a lot, and when Anne and him run into each other in the street, he realizes that they are very alike. Frankie seems like a good brother, but he always seemed a bit jealous of his older brother Dan. He was fit tall and strong like Dan, but he just never was as good as him though. I haven’t read much of the book so this is the only the first part of information about Frankie, but when I read more of the book I am sure I will see more sides of him.

Mindfulness in the Enviro- Creating Seeds

WIN_20160218_120121WIN_20160218_120126 (2)Today during writing, we went up into Enviro. So we could draw a picture of something interesting, which we drew in our seed books so we could get plenty of ideas. We weren’t aloud to really talk to anyone, or be near anyone, first I went up on the hill near the swimming pool. I drew a picture of some Bali I think it was, it had long stems and millions of little flowers on the ends of them. I hope I can get a very interesting, descriptive piece of writing. I did a few little scribbles but this was my favourite, because I like the flowers on the end of the stem. The picture to your right is of a little cute guinea pig from the Enviro. It was very hard not to just play with them the whole time so I decided to hold it whilst I was drawing, I must admit that is did a miniature poo on me; but its cuteness payed up. Honestly I am not a very good drawer, so I did some of its surroundings so the horrible drawn guinea pig wasn’t the only thing on the page.

PROJECT ROCKIT

project rockit imageLast week two people called Caitlin and J.B. came in to show us some interesting things like the human chain, and how to be safe on social media. Except they didn’t just come in and show us boring stuff like what your password should be and what your password shouldn’t be. They actually interacted with us and we got to play fun games, to learn about the human chain. The game was where six people came out the front, they were each numbered 1-6. 2,3,4,5 and 6 all had to go outside the door and wait, Caitlin made up some things that the number 1 person had to dance to, example…. she would say…. Beyoncé riding a horse whilst swimming and dancing to Taylor Swift’s song shake it off. The number 1 person would practice it in front of every one but the numbered people, then number 2 person would come in, and number 1 person would have to act it out, with out sign language or talking. Then number 1 would sit down and number 2 would stand up, and number 3 would come in, and n.2 would act out how they saw it. And continue till n.6 came out, n.6 watched the act and then said out loud how they saw it ”some one singing and riding a motorbike in the rain”  The message was…. every time you pass on a story it changes, [ a.k.a a rumor ]. Then they read us all a few stories about rumors, and how fast word travels on social media. I really liked Caitlin and J.B. coming in, and I think I learnt a few hand tips about social media!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

READING LOG- SOON

WIN_20160210_193817 (2)The book I am reading now is called Soon. At the start of every chapter the first word is always Soon, this is what it is about!

Soon– is a book about a boy who lives with his godfather in a underground house, which has been half blown up and destroyed from the war. They hide from Nazis that come around and kill innocent people, just to show that there the boss, but when the boy is nearly killed by one of the men he doesn’t dare tell, his godfather.

I like these sorts of genres because they’re usually very breathtaking and interesting. I also enjoy crime and mystery, because I enjoy reading all the clues, and trying to solve who did it what, or who killed who before the book actually tells me. There is one other type of series I like and they are all by Jaqueline Wilson, her front cover of her books are usually a magazine layout but the inside is just a normal book.

How long do I usually read for?

It really depends on how good the book is, or how much I am enjoying the book. As you know I am reading Soon, it has lots of interesting twists, whenever I decide to pick it up, I can never quite put it down. I am always like ”one more page, wait… just one more page” and then another interesting part comes and I won’t be able to put it down! But usually my reading time will go for 30-35 mins [ if of course it is a good book ]. I don’t really read that much in the holidays, and when school comes back mum is always telling me to pick up a book and read, but when I get a good book like Soon, she will be telling me to put it down and go to bed.

Year 6 Agreements Reflection

We agree to…

~Respect ourselves, others and our learning environment: I think I and all of year 6 have respected each other very well, by looking after our uniform and taking care of each other. We also respect our classroom and the objects that we use in the classroom. I think that we all keep the classroom quite tidy, or when it is messy we do a very good job bye cleaning it up.

~Respectfully listen using our eyes, ears and bodies: I think I have so far been very respectful to all the classes by using my, ears, eyes and heart to listen to the teachers. I also think that I have respected my uniform and my body very well, and kept myself quite clean at recess and lunch.

~Be creative: On Friday all of 6A made math’s signs, and we were all being very creative whilst decorating. By using glitter and colour, and thinking outside of the box

~Take risks: On Thursday all of the year 5’s and 6’s had sport. We all chose what summer and winter sport we would like to do, there was also a note about trying out for the state basketball, netball, soccer or cricket team. Most people chose to get the note, so that was putting yourself out there and taking risks by trying out for the Victorian team.

~Show, not just tell when showing the way: Nobody has really asked me where to go, but when someone does ask me I will take, and show that person exactly where they need to go, so next time they will know, and possibly show the next person where to go!

~Embrace opportunities: So far we haven’t had many opportunities, but throughout the year I am sure we will have many.

~Treat others as we would like to be treated: I would always like to be treated nicely and be respected, so that is the way I will treat other people.

~Be inclusive: I have included people in the class, but I could always be a bit more inclusive.

~Be respectful and mindful of learning spaces: We haven’t been in our learning spaces for long, but we have respected our classroom very well.

~Be open-minded and embrace differences: In year 6 there a lot of opportunities so I am going to be very open minded and also embrace differences.

~Create a happy environment: Always be kind to the people around you and the people in year 6, I think I have been quite happy, so if everyone is happy and kind it will be a very happy environment.

~Try our hardest to be better at everything: I think I have tried very hard so far in all my classes.

~Help each other out: if someone doesn’t know where to go, help them out, I think I have helped a few people in my class out by telling them where things are.

~Use our initiative: when I have finished a task I have gone on to some homework or finished something that needs to be done.

~Listen to each other’s thoughts and ideas: I have listened well to other peoples ideas instead of just saying ” no that’s a bad idea”

~Learn from our mistake’s: I have learnt from mistakes, so next time I go to do that thing I wont make that mistake.
