Reflection-Week 8

Hello this is my weekly reflection.

MATHS

Today during maths we started a new project called my life in numbers. This is a project where we will tell people facts and things about ourselves using many different forms of maths. For example to tell a person my age instead of just saying my age it would be the answer of an equation like, (2 to the power of 3) divided by 2 + (3 to the power of 2) – 1. Some of the things we came up with to have in this project was the amount of days you have lived, your height, when you wake up, your age, how many days to the end of school and the difference between things.

INQUIRY

During inquiry on Monday we were all editing our personal projects. Once I had finished editing the film I showed it to three people who only had one suggestion on what to change or add which was in two of the scenes have the first section of children playing bright and vibrant then when I get excluded have the colour fade away unfortunately I am unable to do that with Corel so I was unable to action that feedback. At the end of the lesson my group got the whole class on the oval and they all acted like it was lunch time everyone was playing games except for me sitting by myself we filmed that shot with the drone from a birds eye view.

WRITING

In writing today I completed a seed and draft about running. I wrote about the heat, pain and breathlessness. I wrote this piece because I recently competed in Run Geelong. One of my favourite lines is the repetitive thud as my feet smack the pavement. I also like the line my pain stricken legs gradually slow and hypnotizing breaths surround me. Next writing session we will be decoration the boxes that our pieces will go home in at the end of the year, we need boxes because some of our pieces have been published in 3D.

Reflection-Week 7A

Hello this is my weekly reflection.

MATHS

During maths today we completed a problem about a pyramid of blocks. In the question there was a picture of a pyramid shape made from blocks but we could only see one side of the structure, the first question was how many blocks are there in the pyramid. I found the answer to this by counting how many blocks there were on each side of the bottom layer and multiplying them together and so on. After 3 layers I noticed a pattern, the pattern was that if you were six layers down from the top the equation to find the amount of blocks is 6 x 7 and if you are at layer 4 it is 4 x 5. Once you have all the answers to the layer equations you plus them together and you have the answer.

INQUIRY

During Inquiry today we made some more edits to our personal film. First we re-filmed a scene where being bullied (me)was crying and it was a close up of my face, we had to re-film because there was a fake tear drop on my fore head wich made the shot not realistic. We also have planned to tomorrow film a drone shot of the oval with everyone playing games and the drone zooms down on me sitting by myself. Tomorrow we also plan to change a shot where I ask to play but the bullies run away because the bullies were playing rock paper scissors and we will change it to down ball so it is relatable and realistic.

WRITING

In writing today I started writing a piece about a kid who wakes up blind and his dad is acting strange and the child in the story gets more and more suspicious and he wakes up one day and he can see and the man who he thought was his dad the whole time is a stranger. I am writing this piece because I went to a guru session with Mr Panckridge in the session we talked about adding twists to the story to make it more interesting.

Weekly reflection-Week 6B

Hello this is my weekly reflection

MATHS

During maths this week I attended a maths group on how to find the area of a 2D shape. I learnt that the answer is always in units 2(squared) such as centimeters 2 because there are 2 dimension length and width. To find the area of a 2D shape you multiply the length by the width so if there is a rectangle with the measurements, length=2cm and width=6cm to find the area you do this equation 2cm x 6cm = 12cm (squared) and the area is the answer of the equation but when you write the answer you must write cm 2 for the answer to be correct.

INQUIRY

During inquiry this week we begun our personal project. First we wrote the shotlist to prepare all the shots needed to make the film. While writing the shotlist we made sure to be detailed and include the expressions the actors on screen would have. Once the shotlist was completed and shown to a teacher we begun the filming. Our film was about exclusion so we had shots where the victim looked sad such as a close up of the victims face with fake tears and a really sad expression. I think we might have to re-film the shot where the victim gets pushed over and lots of people walk past and don’t help because the crowd waiting to walk into the shot were already in the shot at the beginning.

WRITING

During writing this week I attended a guru session. The guru session was about making our writing more interesting and adding twists. We all shared our ideas for stories and twists. Then we begun to write the main plot of our story idea onto paper. After the session I continued by starting a seed from my idea, the story is about a boy who wakes up blind and his dad tries to help and takes him to the doctor as the story continues his dad acts stranger and stranger and at the end of the story the boy will wake up and be able to see but the man who he thought was his dad the whole time is a stranger.

Learning Reflection

Hello this is my weekly learning reflection.

MATHS

During maths this week I have been practicing my formal division skills. I learnt that it is quite similar to addition and multiplication but has some key differences such as if your number cant be divided by your other number you write a zero and carry the number in front of the next one and it becomes that number. I have learnt this week how to do formal division and I have improved my tree diagram skills and understanding.

ENGLISH /WRITING

During writing today I wrote most of a haiku about summer. The purpose of my piece is to excite people for summer. While writing this piece I focused on alliteration which means to use the same letter repeatedly in a sentence, so far I have written “Scorching summer sun

softly serenades me

summer see you soon”

Today I learnt what the word alliteration means and the amount of syllables you have to have in a haiku.

INQUIRY

Today in inquiry we worked on our student led conference sheets. In the sheet we wrote what subject we were doing, what we are to present, what we would talk about and what we learnt. The subject I chose were Inquiry, Maths, English, PE, French and IProject. For Inquiry I will present my excursion shotlist, for maths I will present our shape animations, for English I will present the writing process, for PE I will show my hurdle technique and what I learnt, for IProject I will  show what I have done so far and in French I will read I section of reading to show how my pronunciation has improved.

Learning Reflection-Week 4B

Hello this is my weekly learning reflection.

MATHS

During maths this week I have been practicing my double digit multiplication using formal algorithms. While using a formal algorithm you start with the single digit numbers and times the numbers together if the answer is over 9 you keep the single digit and write the second digit above the next number. After that you times the single digit on the bottom number and the double digit on the top together, this time if the number is over 9 you write both numbers there. Then you cross out the single digit of the bottom number and write a zero below your answer. Next you times both numbers in the double digit and write the answer next to the zero. Finally you plus both numbers you have written and you have your answer.

WRITING

Today in writing Miss Torney put a plate, a knife, some butter, slices of bread and some !!!!!!!!!! on a table. We then had the instructions to give her detailed steps on how to make a sandwich. If the instructions weren’t detailed enough she would make it wrong. We did this activity so we knew how detailed your steps had to be if you were writing a procedural text.

INQUIRY

During Inquiry today I filled a shotlist of what I was going to film for our project. Our project is to create a promotional film for Geelong. Our clients for the film are a company called “Advertising For Geelong And The Bellerine”. In the shotlist I had to fill out what type of shot it was going to be, where I was going to film it and the action that will be preformed in the shot. For the excursion our class is going to Supa Tramp and Torquay. For Torquay I will film things like the beach and ice cream shops and at Supa Tramp I will film things like dodge ball and front flipping.

Learning Reflection-Week 3A

Hello this post is my weekly learning reflection.

MATHS

During maths today I completed a few worded maths problems. For example “there is 18 islands on each map and you have 12 maps, how many maps are there all together?”. For these questions you take each number in the questions and times them together, then the question becomes 18 x 12. I figured out the answer by splitting the questing making it 10 x 10 = 100 and 2 x 8 = 16, 100 + 16 = 11

ENGLISH/WRITING

During writing this week I wrote a seed about snakes. I chose snakes because I am scared of them which means I can put more emotion into the piece. I think my piece will be about me being glued to the floor while a snake slowly approaches, the piece will be only a few seconds long and a small period of time but I will put as much description as possible into the small scene.

INQUIRY

In inquiry today we found out what we will be doing as our next task. Our next task will be to create a small film promoting Geelong. The films will be made by kids for kids. We will film the most fun and interesting attractions and places to go in Geelong for someone who has never been here. Once these films are made some of them will be put on a website that purely advertises for Geelong.

Learning Reflection – Week 2B

Hello this is my weekly learning reflection.

MATHS

During maths today we practiced a strategy called carrying. When using the carrying strategy you work on each place value column separately. If your problem is addition and the place value column your working on reaches over ten you write the number in the ones column and above the next column number write the value in the second. My favourite strategies are compensation and carrying.

ENGLISH / WRITING

During writing this week we learned about procedural text. A procedural text is a piece of writing telling people how to do something in steps. We learned that they contain methods, a goal, commands and sometimes pictures of the process. I have just finished my procedural text called “How To Throw A Frisbee. While writing my goal was to write the steps very clearly so even if you have never seen a Frisbee you should be able to throw it by reading my steps.

INQUIRY

During the past four inquiry sessions we have been working on information narratives about digital citizenship. The first step to writing our narratives was to choose a section of the digital citizenship footprint. The section my partner and I chose was profile (only use your first name and do not give away your personal information ). The next step was to write your narrative.

The final step of the writing process was to get feedback from three people as you can see from the three names at the bottom of the story.

Next we chose appropriate pictures to assist our story and after that a song. We added these components into corel and begun recording our story.

I WILL INSERT THE STORY CLIP HERE

I think we worked well and efficiently and were able to produce a pretty good final product.

Leave feedback in the comments.

Home Learning | Term 2 | Week 1A Learning Reflection

Hello this post is about the learning I have done this week.

So far in maths this term we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and the language that is associated with them. Some of the language I have learnt is prism (always have parallel sides), pyramid (sloping sides that meet at a point at the top, apex (the highest point of a pyramid and edge (where two faces meet). We have also learnt about 2D nets. A 2D net is the unfolded version of a 3D shape. We made 2D nets by using building shapes to make prisms and triangles then unfolded them and recorded what we had made in our books.

In inquiry our latest task has been to make a teaser trailer for a mystery our group made up about the school. Our group put our own twist on the Loch Ness Monster for our mystery. I learnt that when making a teaser trailer you should not reveal too much about the story but put just enough in the trailer to hook the audience and make them want to know more. I also learnt that it should be about 30 seconds long and the shots should be simple.

For English I will talk about my writing. In writing we have talked about our seeds and why we choose them. We decided that we have to choose a topic that we are passionate about and are interested by. We need a purpose and a genre that we enjoy. Another way we can decide on what to write was choosing a topic we know lots about.

So far I think I have had a great first week.

Mindfulness In The Enviro

IMG_2879This morning our class visited the Enviro to draw in our seed books what we saw so later on we could start a seed from them. I find the Enviro calming and quiet , I think it is quite a good place to relax and work. At first I drew some leaves and plants that were planted beside me. After that I tried to draw some hills with fields that I thought looked like grids. The final thing I drew was a wren that was hiding in the bush that was next to me.

The sentences I wrote next to the leaves where, Streaks as if forming a maze stretch across the leaf and veins of vibrant yellow reach across the leaf.

The sentence next to the hills are, grids stretch/reach across the hills reaching for the sunset.

The final sentences I wrote were for the wren they were, nimbly hopping from leaf to leaf and exited chirps echo.

I like writing in the Enviro because there is so many ideas and animals. It is also very quiet and a great learning space. What do you think.
