( I have missed 2 sessions of design because I have been sick)
Today we watched a video about the science of rollercoasters and what makes them rollercoasters. after the video we were told to make a design. I thought for a while what might work and what might not work. then I came up with this idea…
I put the slope at the beginning for speed. I will probably extend it when I started making the rollercoaster
In my design you can see there is a loop that’s another reason I put the ramp at the beginning so object could make it around the loop.
After that I thought when I drew the small ramp it would act like a speed brake sometimes.
I made my design look like this because it sounded challenging and feel like I will have some different parts to every one else. I don’t know if it will be stable enough to stay up straight for the object to make it around or whether it will just fall over.
In some parts I think I might have to improve my design but in other parts I feel like it will be able to stay for the final product.
Most of the idea I am using relies on gravity because there are a lot of ups and downs. I may have to make the speed brake lower to the ground so the object doesn’t fly away. With the ramp that gains speed at the beginning I may not even need the speed brake.
I joined a group today and we started working on the loop and the funnel. by the end of the session we had made a working loop. and putting them together… although we set up the pipes for the Marble.
We added an extra pipe today and made a stand for the loop. We had to make the real design in the next session I will show you it

I have made my design of this rollercoaster project and here is the photo of my design so far. and what my group did this lesson while I was blogging and working on my design we are now adding a tube for the marble to jump into and then roll out through the other end. from this lesson I have started to think more about momentum and gravity because the marble was pushing the rollercoaster around so now I l now we don’t want it to fast neither to slow
This session we have made a HUGE difference!
One of the groups offered us a box to use for our rollercoaster, thanks to them we now have this.
we have used he loop from our previous idea, and put it in the middle of the box. We have a tube the coils around the box which carries the marble around and down then up through the loop. We still have a few things we an adjust and change. After this lesson I have started to think whether we will have enough speed to get the marble around the loop. My group and I are also thinking what part we will connect of the rollercoaster to another rollercoaster.
Session 6 part 1
we have worked on the loop today to see if the marble can get through. We experimented taking the inside tubes and placing them outside around the box. keeping the loop standing up with dictionaries. ( We left some of the tubing going through the box ).
Session 6 part 2
Today we finally got our rollercoaster working every time! We joined with another group this session and now have made a fully working rollercoaster that can be split into two very easily. We are currently making a Quik video including both rollercoasters.
Today was the last session of our rollercoaster project which I really enjoyed! I have made our rollercoaster presentation on quik using all the photos and videos we have took of both groups. We have officially finished our rollercoaster. Thanks for reading!
