# who am I, next part

You wont believe what happened today! They found my Mum. The only problem is the Burkes. That’s what is gunna be a challenge. Oh yeah, I’m seeing her next week.

I’m really stressed about what she is gunna think of me. I hope she likes me . I’m almost there if I end up staying with her then Sam’s bike will be mine!

I am writing to you while I am with my Mum. She is the nicest person i have ever met!

I can’t wait to begin spending the rest of my life with her.

The End

# Angles Investigation

I learnt from this maths session, that using a protractor gives you an estimate of the angle.

We played a game where you had to try and estimate the angle by moving the pointer where you place it.

As you can see in the first picture below that the answers are covered. Before you remove the covers we needed to try and guess the answers.

These are my answers to the angles below.

# Term 1 Reflection

WOW!!! What a great start to the year, term 1 has been. It has  been a great way to introduce me to design. We have made roller coasters with a group and create a marble roller using a cereal box. I have learnt how to use certain things like quik which is good for slideshows, And movie maker which is almost the same software as quik but on computer. In maths we have been playing addo and learning about shapes and more. Next term we are going to be making a Rube Goldberg machine which is a complicated creation that does a simple thing. I’m so looking forward to Term 2 !!!

BRING IT ON!!!!

Glossary:

Congruent: its the same in every way.

Adjacent: two sides that are touching.

Opposite: when sides are opposite.

Parallel: the opposite sides never touch each other.

Acute Angle: smaller than 90 degrees.

Obtuse Angle: more than 90 degrees.

Reflex: larger than a straight angle.

All of 5C have recently been playing a game called Addo in maths. In addo you have to group up with a partner and write down numbers in 3×3 boxes from 1 to 20, because 20 Is the highest possible answer.

Then you cut up all different numbers 18 and below

this is my grid that I made.

You take turns in picking 2 cards and after that you must add them up to make a total.

Whoever gets 3 in a row wins. This can be vertically, horizontally or diagonally!

The best number to put in the middle I think is either 11 or 10 because 5 and 6 are very common. I would always at least put one of them in for my Addo board.

13 14 and 15 are very common as well.

I usually put them across from each other because I can get 3 in a row faster.

This was my addo board in the middle.

We all had 10 in the Middle because it is one of the most common answers.

Hope you are enjoying my blog.

# Rollercoaster

24/02/2017 Friday the 24th

( I have missed 2 sessions of design because I have been sick)

Today we watched a video about the science of rollercoasters and what makes them rollercoasters. after the video we were told to make a design. I thought for a while what might work and what might not work. then I came up with this idea…

I put the slope at the beginning for speed. I will probably extend it when I started making the rollercoaster

In my design you can see there is a loop that’s another reason I put the ramp at the beginning so object could make it around the loop.

After that I thought when I drew the small ramp it would act like a speed brake sometimes.

I made my design look like this because it sounded challenging and feel like I will have some different parts to every one else. I don’t know if it will be stable enough to stay up straight for the object to make it around or whether it will just fall over.

In some parts I think I might have to improve my design but in other parts I feel like it will be able to stay for the final product.

Most of the idea I am using relies on gravity because there are a lot of ups and downs. I may have to make the speed brake lower to the ground so the object doesn’t fly away. With the ramp that gains speed at the beginning I may not even need the speed brake.

Session 2

I joined a group today and we started working on the loop and the funnel. by the end of the session we had made a working loop. and putting them together… although we set up the pipes for the Marble.

Session 3

We added an extra pipe today and made a stand for the loop. We had to make the real design in the next session I will show you it

(this is a bit of the rollercoaster so far)

Session 4

I have made my design of this rollercoaster project and here is the photo of my design so far. and what my group did this lesson while I was blogging and working on my design we are now adding a tube for the marble to jump into and then roll out through the other end. from this lesson I have started to think more about momentum and gravity because the marble was pushing the rollercoaster around so now I l now we don’t want it to fast neither to slow

Session 5

This session we have made a HUGE difference!

One of the groups offered us a box to use for our rollercoaster, thanks to them we now have this.

we have used he loop from our previous idea, and put it in the middle of the box. We have a tube the coils around the box which carries the marble around and down then up through the loop. We still have a few things we an adjust and change. After this lesson I have started to think whether we will have enough speed to get the marble around the loop. My group and I are also thinking what part we will connect of the rollercoaster to another rollercoaster.

Session 6 part 1

we have worked on the loop today to see if the marble can get through. We experimented taking the inside tubes and placing them outside around the box. keeping the loop standing up with dictionaries. ( We left some of the tubing going through the box ).

Session 6 part 2

Today we finally got our rollercoaster working every time! We joined with another group this session and now have made a fully working rollercoaster that can be split into two very easily. We are currently making a Quik video including both rollercoasters.

Session 7

Today was the last session of our rollercoaster project which I really enjoyed! I have made our rollercoaster presentation on quik using all the photos and videos we have took of both groups. We have officially finished our rollercoaster. Thanks for reading!

below is our quik video

MARBLE RUN BLOG 3/02/2017

SESSION 1

Today we started a project called cereal box marble run. We started off by making designs and some people if they finished their designs they could go on to creating and cutting out their cereal box. We were given a challenge to only use 30 cm which made this project a lot more challenging

SESSION 2

Today I worked on my marble run that I started on Friday I have changed the design slightly because the marble kept falling off the slope. I have now curved the slopes so the marble doesn’t fall off. Another problem I had is the cereal box kept falling backwards I used the rest of the cardboard to make a stand using a bit of my tape.

SESSION 3

Today I started a movie maker I took some photos and videos and used effects that I was told by my friends and how to use them. I improved my design by making it more clear and showing how it gains speed.

SESSION 4

Today I stopped using movie maker and started using Quik because it was a lot more simple and I liked the design of it more and because there were more options and suited my design… after this session I finished my video and my marble run.

# What has changed in me this year?

This is what has changed in me this year…

Whenever I go outside now I notice way more things like birds and plants.

Before I came to the Enviro garden (Year 4) I didn’t notice as many animals and plants as what I do now. For example 1 or 2 years ago I wouldn’t have noticed a family of superb fairy wrens hopping around I would have just thought of it as a  bird. Same with a eastern spinebill I would have just thought of it as a strange yellow bird. But now I know its a eastern spinebill because of its colors, and features like how there beak is really long for their food.

In the Enviro there is a special nude food policy and that means 1. no packaging in your lunchbox 2. we want to make the environment healthier 3. keep our plants healthy.  These  are  a few of the reasons why we have the nude food policy.

Each term we have a Year 4 question for us to think about nature and how nature helps us. For Term 1: how can we grow a productive garden, Term 2: how are the living things around us connected, Term 3: how has our landscape changed over time, Term 4:how do we use the earth’s resource’s. and they are all of the term’s question’s. Then we have a main question for the whole year and the question is how can we make a good tomorrow.

In cooking now that I’ve seen that you can make really healthy foods in under 100 seconds like how Richard cooked a healthy plate of beans and served them within 100 seconds which I thought was awesome! And how its made me think more about how much fun cooking can be.

Now I’ve experienced ponding I now know there is so much life underneath the water like freshwater-shrimp that I didn’t now were in the Barwon river and there are so many different species in the Barwon River. I’ve also learnt about life cycles were a turtle would need to eat a lot of freshwater shrimp and then something would need to eat the turtle and so on.

I wonder what I will learn next…
