Our recent project in project maths has been Fays Nines. Our task was to find all the possible answers leading up to 180. We were aloud to use the digits between 1-9 to create an answer that adds up to 999.
When we started with this problem I thought it would be very similar to magic squares but it turned out to be different In many ways and I got a bit confused because I didn’t know where to start.
I noticed that if you got 19 in the units Colum, 18 in the tens and 8 in the hundreds Colum you would get an answer but you had to carry the 1 in order for this to work.
I broke this problem into manageable parts by finding lots of combinations for each part then putting them together to make a correct answer.
I found a way to get the most possible answers by having 3 original numbers then shuffling them around to make a lot of unique solutions and find the goal of 180 answers.
The most challenging part of the question was probably getting started and not knowing where to start anther challenging thing was learning how to carry numbers but when I had help from friends it became a lot easier to understand and that’s when the light bulb clicked
This was my first 2 lessons and my findings.
For my passion project this term I’m making a collage of photos and memories from the past I’m going to be creating a collage of pictures and writing of our journey as a family I would like to use my phone to film the process I’m looking forward to giving it to my family and sharing the memories.
Did you achieve what you originally set out to do? Yes I did and a bit more.
What successes or challenges did you experience toward the end of your project? One of challenges I faced was finding quite a bit of time to take high quality pics and in my opinion quality is better than quantity.
How did you overcome the challenges? I started to knuckle down and get it done even if I was busy
How can you extend your learning if you were to continue with this project? I think that I could travel to a wider verity of locations.
The country I have been studying has been the USA and here is what I have learnt…
Some of the differences are how they say hello and the greetings and how they speak and there accents are pretty different especially in the southern states. The other thing that’s different are there sports like baseball, NFL and Ice hockey are sports that not many countries play.
some of the similarities are the food like burgers and pizzas are a treat same as Australia and many other Western country’s. We build our houses similar and our clothing and business attire are very similar and general clothing are starting to look and be nearly the same especially as teenage kids.
I think I would find the schooling really interesting because of the high level sport programs and I like the style and fashion and how big the sports stores are there like 6 stories high and being amongst the culture and being with everyone and learning about what they do in every day life.
So far I have taken a good collection of photos and edited them to make them look as good as they can
I have learnt how to edit photos and use image placement better
I think one of my successes is knowing how to take photos of the sunrise/set and along the beach but my goal for the remainder of the project is to try and move out of my comfort zone
The next step for me is to make all my images into a film
What do you intend to create? I intend to create a short film consisting of all my favourite photos pictures that I will take.
What technologies will you use? I’m planning to use my Phone a DSLR camera. I’m exited to learn about the DSLR
Who is your project targeted at? My project is aimed at people who enjoy at looking at a variety of different photos.
What are you looking forward to? I’m looking forward to go travelling around to different places and learning how to take the best photos I can.
Did you achieve what you originally set out to do?
Yes, I think that I achieved everything and above that I thought I could achieve, the thing that I found was that ruling of the dimensions was a bit tricky and we had to use all sorts and tried to experiment with the different sizes of the shapes.
What successes or challenges did you experience toward the end of your project?
Well towards the end of the project we were never home and we had a hard time finishing it but in the end we did it and I’m super happy how it turned out.
How did you overcome the challenges?
I started to try and commit more time for the project and that meant me having to get my priorities in order and instead of watching TV and doing it later I started doing the project earlier and TV later.
How can you extend your learning if you were to continue with this project?
I think that if I had more time I think I could put a logo in the middle and that would make it look a lot cooler.
The unit the we have just finished was Win at The Fair our main goal was to Win but at first we thought that we were playing the games but that wasn’t the case we were the people running the game and that little bit of info changed a lot. After we had that info our game boards changed dramatically people started adding portals and rivers which everyone had a lot of fun with but as we got to the digital testing you weren’t aloud to have them because it wasn’t within the program of the game
These are the stats and the game board that we started with we lost $187.40 and we played 149 games so we weren’t very successful. When we started to check our game boards on Maths 300 the results weren’t much better we played 1000 games and each game costs $1 so the income was $1000. Our game boards gave out much more on my first game board had an average payout of $3.50 which was pretty bad our goal was to make $300+ so that means our average payout would have to be at least 70c or under.
These photos are the most successful game board that I created over lesson 2 and 3 we tried to create the best game board we could find but it had to make money and it had to be enticing. On the game board above I made $340.40 my average payout was 66c and I was really happy with my outcome. One of my strategies was to have a big jackpot to try and lour customers but if they wo the jackpot I was in trouble so I had less arrows going upwards so there was less chance of the jackpot being won and I had smaller prizes of to the sides so I can make some prophets.
Lesson 4 was just about finalizing your game boards and trying to make improvements we also spent the lesson taking screen snips of our progress we also had a class decoction and recapped the unit that we had just finished.
