leo barry mark recreation term four free project


Today I started my new free project. I decided to steer away from all the programs that involve having to code something. So because I love footy I can up with recreating the famous Leo Barry mark in the 2005 grand final. I figured out that I would need two pieces of wood, so I can slide Leo through a cut in the wood. On the ball and in Leo’s hands are strong magnets so when the ball comes he marks the ball. This project should be fun and achievable.

Preparing for construction

Today I was getting ready to start the project. First, I had to finish the documenting for the term three project. After that I drew a diagram of what the project might look like. Then I started a list of what we needed on who will get what. The list was long, but it created a clear path on what to do next. We had to go and dig up some supplies around the school. We found some meatal poles that jack will cut and they will be the poles that the string connected to the ball swings on. Then I found some wood so Charlie can cut them over the weekend. That is what I did today I can’t wait to start constructing.

today I started to spray paint the footy field. we decided to spray paint the wooden footy field white so we can put masking tape in the shape of a footy field. then with the masking tape still stuck on so the lines will be white when the rest of the field will be green. it was really difficult to spray paint in the wind but after we figured out what way the wind was going and how hard it was blowing, we could spray the wood pretty well. at the start we were to speedy and we put the masking tape over wet paint so when we pulled it off it was all messy. after that we fixed the messy bits then we waited for it to dry.

today I started the day with putting masking tape on the white spray painted board. I put tape on the board in the shape of the AFL lines. then I spray painted over the masking tape lines with the white spray paint under the masking tape. so when I take the masking tape off the board is green with white lines. then I made the goals out of paddle pop sticks the goal posts are two and 7 eighths of a paddle pop sticks. then the point posts were made of only one paddle pop sticks. then we stuck them onto the board this was hard because there was only a small space to glue them on. sometimes I had to do it all again. after that the green spray paint had dried and I could peal the masking off the see the lines. that was very successful because the lines look like they do on a real footy ground. I feel that today was very successful because I got a lot done and now I have a clear path in how I’m going to successfully complete this project.

Making a slot so Leo Barry can slide through

  The first thing I did today was I made a little passage or slot, so the cardboard Leo Barry figure can slide through. My first idea was to drill a hole in the board so I can fit my saw in it without having to cut the edge. So I did that but then I thought that I could do the hole way in drill holes connected together then file them with sand paper. So that’s what I did and it ended up pretty good except that there were little dips in the edges. To make it look better I put the drill on full and took it up and down the edges. It worked so well the edges became very straight. I had to make the edges straight so the paddle pop stick going down from Leo doesn’t get stuck on his way to mark the footy.

What I decided about the pack

To save time I decided to print a picture of the pack. The only problem was that all the images were of the pack when Leo Barry comes the pack. There was a lot of discussion in this time. In the end we decided to just get the best photo of the pack with Leo in it. So, we printed a full page picture and it was way to big. So, then we made it about half a page it was still to big. Finally, I got the right size at about a fifth of the page. This was a big decision because it was a big time saver.

Making the handles so Leo can move

The last thing I did today was make the handles, so Leo can move. The handles are so Leo can slide through. The handles were very simple to make all I had to do was measure some string three times as big as the board, so I can pull it each way. Then I got the hot glue and stuck the string on some paddle pop sticks and it was done. When I finish drawing Leo I will stick him onto some cardboard so he stands up straight. After that I will stick the middle of the string onto Leo so I can move him around. today was very successful because it got a lot done and I came up with some new ideas that can help guide me to the finished product. 



Making decisions and constructing

Today I had a talk to Mrs Watson about the project and she said that we should have a catapult, so it becomes a two player game so player one moves the character and player two flings the ball. So, I tried to make a catapult out of cardboard. That did not work so I decided to make a catapult. So, I got two paddle pop sticks and stuck them down onto the board then got a rubber band and put it around the paddle pop sticks put it did not stay there so I over lapped it to make it tighter but that made the paddle pop sticks lean to one side. So, then I put hot glue around it, but it still did not work. Today was a hard day because I had to make hard decisions and not everything worked. Then I had the idea to hot glue the ends of the rubber band to the paddle pop sticks then all I must do is pull the band a bit further and it will hopefully work. Today I learnt that everything does not work all the time but when things don’t work it is good because you then improve your project.

Today I came into school early to try and get everything to work. First, I tried the idea I had yesterday which was to hot glue the rubber band to the paddle pop sticks. But the paddle pop sticks still did not stay straight. So I decided to go one with the next job which was to put Leo Barry in the slot. First, I hot glued a paddle pop stick to the bottom of Leo then got a small bit if a paddle pop and stuck it on the bottom of the longer paddle pop stick that it connected to Leo. Then I stuck the handles onto the back of Leo. Then to make Leo not be able to slide through the slot I put to little bits of paddle pop sticks on the flat sides of the long paddle pop stick that is connected to the Leo figure. But the Leo figure did not move that smoothly. So, I decided to put some more bits of paddle pop sticks on the other bit of the paddle pop stick that is connected to Leo. I did this so the figure had even weight on each side. After I did this it helped but not completely. I soon found out that is was getting caught on the sides because I has holding the handles to high so it was not smooth. After I found this out I fixed my hold on the handles the figure moved quite well. Today I learnt that if something does not work add an idea to it or modify it and it should work.

Putting new goals on, making the crossbar so the ball can swing, gluing the ball to the string on the crossbar and screwing the blocks to the board to elevate it

First, I glued the new goals on the board. I chose to get new goals because the old goals would not stand up and they would always fall off. So got the hot glue ready and stuck the new goals on the board. These goals are really good because they have a little disc at the bottom so they are supported and won’t fall over. There were no difficulties which a great start to the day. Then I decided to hammer the blocks in between the two boards so the Leo figure can move. So finally I got one nail in then I realised that I would have to nail the blocks to the bottom board al well as the top board. But I did not have the time so I got the nail out and went and got some screws and a drill. This made it so much easier and more efficient. After that I hot glued the two poles on to the board. Then I put a metal bar across the top of the two wood poles. This was a good idea until I was about to put it back but then they fell off. Now I am going to get wood glue, so it stays and I can complete this part of the project. Before the poles fell I tied some string on the metal bar and stuck the end of the of the string to the small footy that I earlier put a magnet on so when I swing the ball the Leo Barry figure marks it because he has a magnet in his hands. At first I did not measure the string and it did not measure and the ball did not reach Leo so he could not mark it. After that I learnt that I should measure and I get the measuring done and it was perfect and Leo marked the footy. Today was very successful I got so much done and never got distracted. Today I learnt that the days you have that you don’t get much done in the building department but you get problems solved are really good because they set you up for a great next session. Next session I will stick the crossbar back up with wood glue. Then I will start using humming bird equipment to make my project really cool.

To start the day I decided to stick to crossbar up so I could test the humming bird leds and distance sensor when I do that. Because I have no wood glue I just decided to put a big blob of hot glue at the bottom of the two poles then when that dries put more hot glue down the sides to stabilize it. Then I put the metal bar on the top of the two poles and stuck it down with hot glue but it came off. Then I had the idea to hot glue it again then put lots of layers of masking tape in a x shape to make the bar secure. After that I tried to swing the ball but it hits the ground when you try to swing it. The only reason it worked last time is because I through the ball instead of swinging it. First I had to idea to move it forward and take up the string but the I realised that is would still hit the ground because it will be the same as the other one but it is just closer. Then I thought that I could just take it up in the original spot but then it did not reach Leo Barry’s hands. Then I had the idea to stick a paddle pop horizontally to elevate the string and not let it hit the ground. And it worked and I was able to swing the ball through to Leo Barry. Today I learnt It is good to have lots of ideas because you can put them all into action and pick the best one.

After that I did what I said I would do on my last blog post. First I put the different cords from the leds and distance sensor into the humming bird board. The humming bird board it the thing that gives the program to the leds and distance sensor. So then I started to program the humming bird. At first it was very difficult because I could not remember anything I had done previously. But then I got on a role and started to remember the humming bird programming I had done earlier this year. It took a few tries but when I switched the led program block to the if space instead of the else place it finally worked. After that I taped the four leds to the tops of the goal posts but I had to think about this because the cords are not that long so I had to stick the leds on the end on the point post on the same side as the led I continued to do this until all the leds were stuck up. Then I had to measure where to put the distance sensor so it does not sense the figure when it moves towards the sensor but it does sense the footy when Leo Barry marks it. That means it had to be as high as Leo’s hands but 7-10cm away so it can only sense the ball. To make the distance sensor stand up I hot glued a paddle pop stick to the ground then put masking tape around the paddle pop stick and the distance sensor. On the time Leo marked it the leds lit up and it worked. In this part of todays session I learnt that humming bird evolves a bit of trial and error but you have to keep trying because if you give up you will never get it done.

Today was interrupted by a music concert but in the last hour I went flat out to achieve my goal for the day. My goal was to get my snap program to say “Leo Barry you star” when the distance sensor senses that Leo has marked the footy. I came up with the idea in the first period and started to try and get it to work but before I could even start we had to line up ready to go to the concert. After lunch I was determined to get the program to say “Leo Barry you star”. To start I tried to do a screen recording then import it into power point then into snap. It took a few tries to get the screen recording right because sometimes it would glitch and the video frame would move or I would not get all the right words. When I finally got the screen recording right the sound did not go in. so then I watched I couple of YouTube videos to help me get sound into the program but they all did not help. Then I decided to play around and explore snap a bit then I found a button that said record sound. So I quickly got my computer got the Leo Barry mark up on my computer recorded “Leo Barry you star” then I imported it into a brick that said play sound. Then I put the brick that said play sound at the bottom of the if part of the program. But when the ball stuck to the hand of Leo Barry like it is supposed to the sound would get all mushed up and sound really weird. So then I had another explore looking for something that would help. Then I found a block that said play sound until done this means that is will play Leo Barry you star once and will not get mushed. When I tested the program it worked perfectly.

Photo shopping

Today was supposed to be two hours of design but I had swimming. So, as a result of that I only got 40 minutes of design. Because I could not decide what to do in such a small amount of time I just went on the internet and tried to find the AFL on ground grand final logo, so I can stick it on the field and it will look like it does in a real grand final But when I searched it up it only came up with the 2006 logo. This was a problem because I need the 2005 logo. Because I could not find the 2005 logo I decided to photo shop the six into a five. This was really hard because I have never used photo shop before. At first, I was just going through every tool to see if it would help. After a long time of searching I found a cover tool. This tool is pretty much spray paint. First you are have to pick your colour this took a long time because I wanted to get it perfect. Then I had to run my mouse over where I wanted the paint to go. Then I right clicked on the photo and looked through the drop down menu and there was an icon that said type. So, I placed my mouse over where I wanted the five to go and clicked down. But I forgot to pick the size. So, then I picked the size and put a five where it should be. Then I printed the picture and stuck it on the field. Today was a good day because I learnt how to use photo shop and I got the on ground 2005 grand final finished. Next session I might try to make stands around the footy field or make the bench where the players sit when they are about to go on the ground.


Making the stands

Today I started with what I said I would do. I made the stands.at the start of the session I decided to stack two paddle pop sticks in the front row then in the second I would have five then in the third row I would stack eight paddle pop sticks then sticks down. I did this four times, one set of stands in each corner of the board. The only problem was that I stuck a few of the stands down with hot glue but then I ran out of hot glue and had to use PVA glue. Nothing went wrong from there. In this part of the lesion I learnt to compromise to get a result.

Making the benches 

After I finished making the stands I decided to make the benches. I made the benches out of three cut paddle pop sticks stuck together then I put two cut pieces and put them on each end of the three paddle pop sticks then I put a paddle pop stick on the top as a roof. Then stuck it on either wing off the board. I had no difficulties with this little part because I visualised what it would look like and just did it when I had the idea. I think today was very successful because I got all the jobs that take a long time out of the way. Next session I might put some players on the field and bench to make it look realistic. I might also put some logo people in the stands.

Today I did what I said I would do in my last blog post. I started the day with making the project more detailed. At the start of the session I could not decide on how I was going to make my project more detailed. Then I thought that I could put people in the stands. My first idea was to get some Lego people and put them on the stands, but I could not find any Lego people. So, I went on the internet and got photos of each team’s supporters. I got three different pictures of fans from each team and put them on cardboard. After that I stuck them onto the stands using blue tick. Today was pretty easy because there were no difficulties and It was not a very difficult task.

today I did a lot of documenting. I started making a movie, a power point and a drew a diagram of the project. today was very easy because I only made thing on my computer and nothing was hard at all. I did all this documenting because the expo is coming up and I thought that it would be good to have something to show apart from my project. today I did not learn much because nothing I did was very hard at all. also there were no difficulties which was good because that made the day pretty easy.

today I decided that we did not need a power because I’m making a movie. the movie is about the journey of this project. the movie shows pictures and videos about the steps that I had to conquer to get the finished product. today I put the rest of the pictures in the movie then I put some captions on the photos and videos. the only problem was when I put some animations in to make the transitions look cool. but when I tried to do put the animations in they changed all the captions times so they did not match the right picture or video. so after that happened I decided to get rid of the animations and finish the movie. and that is what I did.



The summary

this terms project was amazing, it was not too complex that we could not get a result. but in saying that my project was still quite complex. in this terms project I learnt that it is great to make something you are passionate about, so you are very interested and determined in getting the job done. also, I learnt that it is good to elaborate on your thoughts to make the project more complex and appealing for others. This project was good because my group members and I were very focused because none of us has had a finished project. This project was very unique, so no one could really tell us how to do it there were no tutorials on how to complete the challenge. But in some respects that is good that no one could help up because that taught me to be creative and drive myself in my learning to archive the ultimate goal that is to complete the project. In the end that is what we did. This terms project was so much different in every way to my term three project a self-watering footy ground that also lights up when it gets dark. The first reason is that my term three project I used Arduino and did a lot of programming. This term I learned from my mistakes and steered away from the Adriano and programming. Although I did program the humming bird led’s and distance sensor the humming bird programming is very different to the Arduino programming, the Arduino programming uses words, letters, numbers and even symbols that were very confusing. Also the Arduino programming is very disorganised and confusing. But on the other hand, In humming bird there are about 6 to 8 different coloured categories with different matching coloured blocks in them. For example, the orange blocks are for control so start blocks and everything like that. Having the programming blocks colour coded is helpful because this makes it organised and you know where to look for a block without having to think. Another thing that is good about humming bird is that it is block programming so, this means that you do not have to do as muck because all the blocks do one important each thing so the whole program works. I think it was good to have two very different projects because that means I learn about equipment that I did not use in the previous projects. I’m also happy that my first project did not work because that showed me that I had to big goals to try and archive in a small amount of time. Without my first term fail I would not have completed the second term project because I would have not learnt that somethings are just to hard. this project had no major difficulties, this made the project flow well and because we did not have to stop for any troubles we got to add more onto the project. over all this project was very fun and I learnt a lot. I would defiantly recommend it for anyone who wanted to have fun while learning.

the last blog post 



this project I did so much, I feel like I covered all basses. I covered the base of humming bird and humming bird programming. I covered the base of woodworks and finally I covered the base of being organised. this project made me think in different ways and made me more creative. over all I think I really pushed myself to try new things and get the project done.



the more important ideas in the project were the idea of putting magnets on the ball and in the hands of Leo Barry. another important idea was the idea of elevating the board so Leo can move through. probably the most important idea was the idea of putting the humming bird in. the humming bird Idea was important because it made the project more sophisticated. I really enjoyed this project project because I got to be creative and learn new thing while having fun.




I don’t really know where I could use this again. I do not know where to use this because it is so unique.




I don’t think their are any patterns in what we did because even though I had a very detailed plan, I was always adding different ideas to make the project interesting.




I think I did most things well because I thought the project through a lot and made a detailed plan. also I was very interested and focussed during the project.




I don’t think I can do much apart from make it bigger. I can’t do much because again the project is so unique.

who am i?

Who am I? summary

The book Who am I who am Is set at Bomaderry children’s home. Amy Charles now named Mary Talence lives in the Bomaderry home and has been there for five years. the people at the home changed Marys they from Amy Charles to Mary Talence. this was because they did not want Mary’s mother to find her. Just after Marys tenth birthday her life was changed again. Mary was adopted by a white family in St Ives. Mary was forced to go, this confused her. It made Mary not believe in herself. The family named the burkes only adopted her attention. It took a while for Mary to trust her new parents. This was yet another identity change. Mary liked to help out around the house and Marys new mother really liked that. This provoked a threatened little sister Sophie, and made Sophie been made to Mary. Sophie and her brother Sam made some ignorant comments. They said that the only reason she has food is because of the white people. On Marys very first day at school everyone realise that she was different and the leader of the mean students, Johnny Jones called Mary Abo and a Boong. Johnny Jones even spat on Mary. Later that week Mary Met an indigenous lady named Dot. Dot told Mary about aboriginal culture and how the white people will not kill the culture of the first Australians. Not acted like a mother to Mary. After the first meeting Mary went home and told her white adopted mother that she saw Dot. Mary was very excited, but her mother snapped at her and said that she was supposed to be white and not to talk to Dot. This made Mary confused and sad because she knows she is black and she can’t change that. At this moment Mary pondered a question the question was who am I? Mary continued to be bullied at school but after a while Mary finds a friend I Toni. Toni is a wealthy Italian girl who is very understanding of Mary’s struggles. At school, Mary is bullied by Johnny jones. Johnny Jones makes Merry feel ashamed to be aboriginal. Mary even tried to scrub the dark skin off her. Mary decided to be disobedient towards her adopted mother and kept seeing Dot. Dot told her about an aboriginal conference on what dot called invasion day. Very swiftly thought up a plan and put it into action. Merry site and illness when her parents and siblings went to a carnival, then Took a train to the conference. Very liked being referred to as an aboriginal like everyone else at the conference. At the end of the conference Mary answer the question of who am I? Mary decided that she is aboriginal, and she is proud.




Who am I and rabbit proof fence comparison.

In Anita Heiss’s who am I? and in Doris Pilkington’s rabbit proof fence I noticed a lot of similarities I also noticed a lot of differences. There were two main themes that stood out for me. The first one is responsibility. Both Molly and Mary are very responsible. For example, Mary took reasonability for the young kids at the Bomaderry home. And Molly took care of her younger siblings on their journey back home. The connection in those statements were that they are both good role models and like to help others. There were also a lot of differences in their responsibility. In rabbit proof fence Molly acted like a mother her sister, her cousin along with herself were taken away from their reals mothers. So, she had no other option, she had to step up. While Mary did not have to act like a mother because she had her real mother, then at Bomaderry children’s home matron rose then ma B her adopted mother. So, Mary had other options. She did not act like a mother. The second theme is they were both resilient children. A similarity is that both Molly and Mary were on a journey that required resilience. Both girls were tested enormously and both girls successfully stood up. There was also a difference in their resilience. Mary’s journey mostly required emotional resilience. This is because she was hit with a lot of confusing challenges. This made her emotional resilience stronger. While Molly was made to use her emotional and physical resilience. Molly used her emotional resilience because she had lots of self-forced pressure on her to look after the younger girls. Another reason she lost had to use emotional resilience is because she lost her best friend, her mother. Molly had to use physical resilience because she had to walk over two thousand miles. This journey was emotionally and physically exerting for Gracie, Daisy and mostly Molly. Anita Heiss’s and who am I? Doris Pilkington’s Rabbit proof fence opened my eyes to a whole new world of mixed emotions. There were happy feelings, stunned feeling, embarrassed feelings and of course sad feelings. I think Anita Heiss and Doris Pilkington did a fantastic job on their story’s.

self-watering footy ground that also lights up when it gets dark


today we started our free project. what I’m making is a self-watering footy ground the also lights up when it gets dark. these are the main parts I need to make the self watering part. I need a liquid pump and a soil moisture sensor. the primary parts are the resisters, the Mosfet’s, the bread board, jumper wires and a Arduino Uno board. today was about getting all the bits and making them do something so you know how they work. but I had a little bit of a head start because a made a word document on how to use all the parts.

 today I tried to make the led strips light up. so I got a diagram of where to put all the wires and where to put the jumper wires on the leds we finally figured out how to put everything together. then I  tried to turn them on but they would not work. so I  checked everything was in the right place and they were than I ran over the diagram one last time and I realised that I needed to have a Mosfet. I think a Mosfet is a big resister or something like that but I am not to sure. maybe I will have to do some research.

soil moisture sensor  

today I tried to get the soil moisture sensor to work. but because we had no pump we needed to use a led. the aim of the task was to make the led turn on if the soil is moist enough but if it is not the led is off. so I found the diagram of the task then I made the circuit. I was really happy with myself. then I found the program and put it in my sketch. {a sketch is where you put the program} then I tried to upload the program and it came up with an err message. so I tried to trouble shoot. my first idea was to change the cord. I did that and it did not work. then I decided to change the Arduino board. that did not work. then I changed the computer and it did not work. then the bell went and it was time to pack up.



Today I started to make the footy field. The footy field is a tub with potting soil and grass seeds. This part of the project was really fun because I got to get my hands dirty. I did not really learn much when I did this part of the project because I have done the enviro year but it was still really fun. we soon realised that we needed to make holes in the bottom of the tub for drainage. so we got a drill and drilled 9 holes in the bottom of the tub. it was very satisfying. then we realised that we needed to elevate the tub so the water can come out of the holes. we did that and all we need to do now is wait for the grass to grow.

3D printing

After I did some gardening I did some 3D printing. 3D was fun because I got to design my own footy. In the program. I got to pick how big the footy was and how wide it was. George Cerni help me make the footy and I also looked up how to make the ball. We had a few struggles though. One of the struggles was that we could not get the ball to be round at the top because it kept being flat then we looked on YouTube on how to make it round. So I did that then emailed it to Mr Colbert to print overnight.

Making the moisture sensor and pump circuit

Today I made the circuits. First, I made the soil moisture sensor and pump circuit. This circuit was simple because there were not many jumper wires. But the Mosfet’s and the pump still have not come so we had to leave some cords not connected to anything. The only problem I ran into was when I realised that the cords won’t be long enough to reach were I want the pump. Luckily, I saw Mitch with some jumper wires that have one end with a little slot that the end of a jumper wire fits in perfectly. So, I added the extension wires then I was done. All I must do now is add the Mosfet’s and the pump.

Making the led circuit

After I made the first circuit I made the led circuit. This circuit was much more complicated, it had wires everywhere. First, I put the extension wires tom the wires that needed to be extended. Secondly, I got all the wires that needed to be connected to the Arduino Uno board then I put them in their places. Thirdly, I put all the wires that are connected to the Uno board and put then in the bread board. Finally, I put all the cords that are only connected to the bread board in the bread board. I also put the resister in and the mini photocell. There were no difficulties even though the circuit was so complicated. All I need to do now is put the Mosfet’s on the bread board.

today my pup arrived in the mail. I was so excited. I put the pump straight into the circuit. the pump has two little tubes for the water to come in and out of. the pump is a twelve volt pump and it is really helpful because the little tubes are long and they fit perfectly into the ice-cream tub. it took a while to figure out witch little meatal conductor was positive or negative. but once we figured out what was what it was very easy to connect. all we had to do was use the alligator to connect the energy from the computer to the pump.

yay the Mosfet’s finally arrived. so we put them straight onto the bread board. the MOSFET’S are a sort of resister. the MOSFET’S sort of clean the energy and make the energy flow better. so now all we have to do is program and decorate.

Summary of the process

A lot has worked for me in this project. there were not too many mistakes made while making the circuits. But there were some difficulties. The main challenge that presented it is self was when the MOSFET’S and the pump did not arrive on time. As a result, our project was stopped because without the MOSFET’S and the pump we could not program. Or proceed in the process. This was very annoying because we could not get much done for a couple of hours. A couple of things has changed over the process of the project. Like when I decided to use two bread boards and two Arduino Uno boards and use two computers to program. Also split the project into two stages. Stage one uses a water pump and a moisture sensor. When the soil is dry the moisture sensor sensors that the soil is to dry. Than the pump pumps water through the hose and into the sprinkler than the sprinkler waters the footy oval. The second stage uses four strips of weather proof leds and a light sensor. The light sensor sensors When it’s too dark and makes the leds light up just like in a real footy ground. Right now, I’m up to programing and I’m happy with myself because I have worked around all the challenges and still go things done. All I must do now is program and decorate the footy field.



Today I was up to testing my pump and the. We had to test the pump, so we could know it would work when we needed it to work. We started by putting the moisture sensor in the dirt, so the pump could start pumping when the moisture sensor said the dirt was to dry. I found the program and tried to upload it to the Arduino Uno board, but it gave us an error message I tried different program, but it always came up with an error message. So, I decided to just use a battery and two drink bottles filled with water, so the water will come out of one and into the other drink bottle. So, we set that up with alligator clips and it worked.

After I played with the pump. We decided to try and program the moisture sensor and pump circuit again. I got all the programs from circuito.io. I got into the first program and copy and pasted it into the Arduino coding program. I did that for all seven of the programs. But they all came up the error message. I became very frustrated. Then I had the idea if I combined all the different programs. I had the idea when I saw some of the programs were very small. l so I combined all the programs and I did not work. I became very frustrated. Then the bell went, and we had to pack up for the day.

today I tried again to program the moisture sensor and pump circuit. i was trying everything today to try and make the circuit work but it wouldn’t. I tried to find a program on the internet but nothing worked they all came up with an error message. then we tried changing our circuit but no program matched it. then I realised that Mr McKie and Mr Colbert will have the program because they did a self watering garden. Colbert got me a program but it did not work because he used leds in his self watering garden. it just came up with an error message.nothing went right today it was a pretty uneventful day because worked. Now with that program Mr Colbert gave us we should have the program soon and I will be happy again.

we are still programming. today was very frustrating. we tried about 7 different codes but every time it would not even let me put into the coding program. Or they came up with an error message. I was trying to find a program for two hours.  but they all had something that my circuit dose not have. one of the programs I tried was very close to being perfect for my circuit but it came up with an error message. but I do not know why. Arduino is so hard to program because there are so many letters. it is nothing like humming bird, wedo or scratch. witch use block programs and they are very easy to use.

after my heart was broken by the programs not working I decided to test the leds in case they were faulty. I did not take long for me to figure out that I needed to get a battery pack to get the leds to light up. this test was not hard at all because all I needed to do was put the right parts off the battery cords on the correct part of the led.

today I tried again to program to pump and moisture sensor program. again today was very frustrating. today no program would work. we tried two program from the internet we tried Mr Colbert’s program he used in his project and I tried a program I had on my preparation but nothing worked. once the first program did not work we changed the Arduino board then tried again but it did not work.I changed the Arduino Uno board because the error message I got said that that it could not connect with the Arduino Uno board. Then all the other codes I tried came up with an error message because the code did not match my circuit. Today was very annoying because no program worked for me.




Which ideas are important?

Probably the most important idea I had was when I realised that the circuit with the pump, moisture sensor, light sensor and the led was way to complicated. So, I split the circuit in two different stages. stage One had the pump and the moisture sensor. Stage two had the light sensor and the leds.

What will happen if…?

I tried a lot of different programs and none of them worked. They either did not match my circuit, or just had something but most of the time the error message will be about the Arduino board. But if one of the programs did work the moisture sensor will sense that the soil is to dry then the pump will water the footy ground.

What else do I need to do?

I have done all the circuits and planted the seed and now there is grass. I have also done most of the documenting all I need to do now is the programming. It is very hard to find a program because every program on the internet had leds in it or something I don’t have.

 What could have I done better?

I probably could have got the list of things we needed in to Mr McKie quicker so that we would have them on time. Not getting all the materials on time because we could not star until they got to us.

 Did I solve a problem?

I think I did solve a problem. This problem was when the materials did not come on time so I could not start so I started other things like planting the seeds making, or making a clear path on what I was going to do.

Am I working well with others?

I think at the start we were bursting with ideas and working very well together, and we got a lot done. Then when no program worked and we all sort of got angry and started to talk more and not do as much work. Now we are back to the start we are all bursting with ideas of how to present our work.


Is my plan detailed enough to archive my goal?

I think my plan is very detailed this is because I made a word document about how to do our project and how everything works. Then again when the materials did not come on time I got I bit more time to make a detailed plan.


 What am I going to do next?

Next, I’m going to find a program that works and finish preparing for the exhibition. I will archive by looking on the internet for a program or even changing my circuit so it can work.

today to start off the day I decided to paint the footy ground. this task was very hard because the grass is in a rectangular tub. the tub is not that big so it is very hard to fit all the lines in. the only problem was when I could not do a centre square because there was no room. it was really fun painting the grass because it had tom be perfect and I like that.

today I decided that I should just focus on getting the lights to work because I could just call it a footy ground that lights up when it gets dark. I sort of gave up on making the self watering bit because none of the codes worked.

I did not try to many codes because I did not have enough time. but this code had not the right leds in it so it did not upload. it was very frustrating. this code had leds that change colour but I have leds that only stay one colour.

today I prepared for the exhibition. to day I make two stands for our computers. the first computer has a power point on it the second computer has a movie on it. I also put some finishing touches on my poster. there were no difficulties today. there were some successes though like when got the idea to make stands for the computers. that idea helped us because it will look nice on our exhibition day.

Today I got in early to school so I could program the led circuit. This morning I tried everything. I changed my USB cord, I changed my Arduino board and I even tried a new board. This is all because the code would not be uploaded. But with the new board the code upload but nothing lit up. So, I checked all the connections, but it still uploaded, and nothing lit up. Today was very frustrating.

this project was very frustrating. in this project I learnt to be resilient and patient. this project was frustrating because no program would work. I really enjoyed working as a group because I could rellie on the other team members. it was annoying because we tried so hard and did so much work to get the project to work but nothing did. this project had lots of ups and downs but looking back on it now I think it was fun. the programs we tried were all for different circuits so none of them worked if I could do this project again I would get the circuit off one site and the program from the same site. but this could not of been the only problem we had, the USB cords that we tried to use may have been faulty and the Arduino board that I used could have not been strong enough to fit all the program in it. a lot of things went wrong for me but the good thing is a learnt new things about Arduino and about being resilient and patient. at the end of the term I had enough of trying then failing. so I decided to go up to IT and see if they could help. I did this because I did not want all my hard work to go to wast. but not even the people at IT could get it to work. after that I had a chat with the teachers to see if I could stop the project because I could not get it work and they said I could stop. next free project I will not use Arduino because it is to hard to program and I will probably not use something that involves programming at all.

makey makey


Today we got a chance to use makey makey. Makey makey is a smaller and easier version of Arduino and humming bird. The makey makey board looks like a hand held game controller. On the makey makey board there are two circles with two holes in the middle the holes are for the alligator clips to get power than transfer the power. The two circles are named space and click. Next to the circles there four arrows in a cross shape. This cross also had holes in the arrows the holes are there for the same reason as the circles. All the arrows are pointing in a different way. this is so when you join the alligator to the holes than tap the other end of the alligator your avatar goes that way. This is only relevant to when you use scratch. Below the circles and the arrows there are six sets of two holes at the bottom these holes are named earth. The earth holes are used to give the alligator clips power.

In challenge one of makey makey we had to make a you-tube video stop and start by two people fist bumping. To make the video stop and start by fist bumping we had to connect some alligator clips to click and earth. The reason for this is that when you connect an alligator clip to click than hold the other end of the alligator clip on the metal it clicks stuff. The reason for having a clip on earth is that the energy comes from earth and so that get the click circle to work when they are close to each other. It took a while for us to realise that you need to hold the metal bit on the end of the alligator clip for this project to work. This challenge was not very hard because we had instructions.

in challenge two we had to make a working guitar. the guitar was made out of cardboard and the guitar had coins on the edge these were supposed to be keys. this challenge pretty hard because there were a lot of cords. the main difficulty was when we tried to go onto the website were you were supposed to play, it would just so there was a disconnect. we tried to trouble shoot and we changed our computers and we changed the USB cord as well but nothing worked.

Little Bits


Today I had to change to a different rotation. I picked the rotation of little bits. The little bits kit has all these different blocks. These blocks are not Lego blocks or anything like that. These blocks have magnets no the end and they connect to other blocks. After you put all the blocks together you put them on a board with holes. There are little things at the bottom of the blocks to board. Little bits also requires a code like humming bird and scratch but with little bits the code is already made for you. Little bits is not really similar to Arduino, humming bird or makey makey. this is good and bad. it is bad that little bits isn’t similar because I could not use any of the knowledge I had picked up in other rotations. It is good that little bits had not many similarities because I got to learn more stuff that might help me in different rotations

Challenge 1

In challenge one I decided to make tug of war game. This tug of war game had two controllers with a little bits button. This challenge was hard because I had never used little bits before and little bits has no relations to any other rotations I have done. This challenge was simplified by a video that showed me what to do. This challenge was really fun, and I learnt a lot that will help me in challenges to come.

Challenge 2

In challenge two I tried to make a target game. So, I put all the little bits blocks on the board. Then I had the idea to make the target game a soccer goal. So, I made all the accessorises and stuck then on the board. Then I got onto the program and I uploaded it and pressed start, but it did not work. I tried going out of the program than going but into it. I tried restating my computer but it still did not work. Maybe my connections weren’t right I thought so I redid the hole project but it did not work. This challenge was very frustrating.

Challenge 3

In challenge three I made a hot potato game. This was not very hard because I had learnt a lot in the other challenges. The hot potato game is made of the blocks and a screen the screen had a hart that would beat faster the longer the game went on. Then the screen shows a scull if you have the board you lose. This challenge was nice because it made me feel good about myself because the program uploaded perfectly.

challenge 4

in challenge four I had to make a guitar sort of thing. the guitar had a volume dimer a pitch dimer and a on button. this challenge was easy because the guitar was very similar to the hot potato challenge. there were no difficulties in this challenge. this challenge was very fun. the guitar did not have many blocks so it was not so complicated. the program uploaded really well that made this challenge much easier.
